AM-01-14 APPLICATION OF PHILLIPS’ S ZORB PROCESS TO DISTILLATES -- MEETING THE CHALLENGE

Following the success of the S Zorb process for gasoline sulfur removal, Phillips Petroleum naturally began working to extend the technology to diesel sulfur removal. In our laboratories in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, we have successfully demonstrated that the S Zorb process works extremely well at producing ULSD from currently available on-road blended diesels containing 500 ppm sulfur. Diesel blendstocks have also been successfully treated to ultra-low sulfur levels of less than 15 ppm sulfur. These results were achieved with very low hydrogen consumption and at mild operating conditions.
