Description:

High-severity FCC operation is used to increase propylene yields, but has not been adapted to address the need for sulfur reduction in the gasoline, which is typically made by selective hydrotreating with some octane loss. Nor have FCC operators gained value from the aromatics created in the cracking unit. These are usually destined for motor fuel or, worse, recycled to the naphtha hydrotreater/reformer to obtain an aromatics mixture for eventual recovery of the benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX).
