Traditionally, chloride removal has been done using alumina absorbents. These have some limitations which are increasingly concerning users. The chemistry of the chloride removal process is reviewed, and the advantage of newer products, specifically bi-metallic chloride guards (PURASPEC 2250/6250), are outlined. Benefits in terms of by-product formation and catalyst disposal are also considered.
