Description:

Shortfalls in crude-derived paraffin waxes over the last decade led to increased use of vegetable, animal, and synthetically derived (Fischer Tropsch, polyethylene, and polypropylene) waxes. Whereas wax prices historically followed crude price, today’s wax pricing shows a poor correlation between the price of waxes and crude oil. This paper describes the fundamental pricing mechanisms which define a price window for the different types of waxes, regardless of their application into candles, packaging, board sizing, rheological, or other wax-consuming industries.
