Description:

Phillips Petroleum Sweeny Business Unit has undertaken a technology strategy that promotes the routine use of process simulation and kinetic models by the plant engineers. As part of this process, Phillips involves the engineers and the rigorous models in the development and calibration of the economic (LP) model. In an effort to enhance the economic model, a validation and reconciliation process has been put in place. Also, interfaces have been developed for the crude unit models developed with the ASPEN Plus software to allow LP submodels to be developed directly from its output. The methodology, structure of this system, and a description of the benefits will be presented.
