Description:

In order to evaluate the remedial potential of a combined aquifer air sparge/soil vapor extraction (AAS/SVE) system on unleaded gasoline contamination, a comprehensive pilot-scale system test was conducted. This test was a component of the Corrective Action Plan prepared by Burns & McDonnell Waste Consultants, Inc. for remediation of an aboveground storage tank (AST) leak at the St. Louis, Missouri Terminal of Clark Refining & Marketing, Inc. The objectives of this test were twofold: primarily to evaluate both feasibility and potential effectiveness of the AAS/SVE system by monitoring relevant ambient physical and chemical parameters during pilot-scale operation, and secondarily to establish design criteria necessary for the subsequent design and implementation of a full scale AAS/SVE remediation system at this site, should these technologies be chosen.
