Description:

Marathon Petroleum conducted a 8hr Process Safety Leadership workshop for all employees and contractor supervision. This course aimed to personalize process safety and bring it 18 inches closer from the head to the heart. This paper will cover the course development, course objectives, and what skills participants away from the workshop. Many of us have attended leadership workshops and realized that skills often decline after the course if they are not utilized and reinforced. How does one know that the skills are being used in the field after the course? This paper will highlight how Marathon Petroleum and Stars International have developed a system to keep process safety leadership skills fresh in the field. We took a two prong approach to this. The first was for the front line supervision and management team to reinforce and coach the process safety leadership skills. The second was to incorporate process safety leadership skills into how employees do their day to day business. This paper will share with industry some of the innovative methods Marathon Petroleum has used to make everyone a process safety leader.
