Description:

An increasingly common strategy to meet decarbonization targets is the inclusion of bio-intermediate feedstocks into conventional refinery processes. This strategy has economic and environmental drivers by avoiding capital and GHG burdens by repurposing existing assets rather than building new processing equipment. Coprocessing of these bio-intermediates in refinery processes such as Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) traditionally designed for fossil fuels can present some unique challenges. These challenges as well as potential mitigation techniques will be highlighted.
