The Operating Practices Symposium (OPS) is a joint NPRA/API meeting which provides a forum for the exchange of information on safe operating practices in refineries and petrochemical plants. The information exchange usually focuses on facility incidents or near misses. Typical incidents covered in this forum include crude unit pump fires, crane incidents, furnace explosions, incidents due to corrosion under insulation, ethanol stress corrosion cracking, above ground storage tank issues, personnel protection, and using handheld devices to prevent incidents. The symposium program will be posted on this webpage (Note: As the OPS program is still being developed, the program information is subject to change. Contact Ron Chittim at chittim@api.org if you have questions.)

Who Should Attend:

Symposium participants are those responsible for gathering incident/near miss information and disseminating the lessons-learned within their companies. Although symposium attendees do not have to be members of NPRA or API, only representatives of refining and petrochemical operating companies will be allowed to attend. If there is a question regarding a registrant’s participation then API or NPRA will contact the registrant to determine whether the participation criteria are satisfied.
