Walk the Line with Confidence

The fourth annual Walk the Line workshop will provide attendees with a variety of learning and networking opportunities. The general session and breakout sessions will highlight aspects of the following themes:

  • Operational Discipline
  • Employee engagement/culture
  • Ownership and Sustainability
  • Implementing WTL with a team approach
  • Measuring Success
  • Operational Readiness
  • Valve Left Open
  • Overfill and Loading/Unloading
  • LOTO/Energy Isolation

The goal is for all companies attending to leave with a written Walk the Line plan to bring back to their sites. With this in mind, the format of this year's workshop will be a mixture of small group breakouts and general session presentations. The workshop will kick off with presentations from five operating companies who will discuss their Walk the Line Journey. This year attendees will have the opportunity to participate in all four breakout sessions.

We will also have a technology showcase. This will provide hands-on opportunities for attendees to interact with products that help achieve WTL staples of Operational Discipline, Operating Procedures, Training, etc. Please contact Alyse Keller (akeller@afpm.org), if you would like more information about becoming a sponsor.

Workshop Goals:

  • Tangible takeaways for attendees: training materials, presentations, meeting notes, benchmarking surveys
  • Include resources and time during workshop for companies/sites to develop action plans to bring back to their site

General Session Speakers:

  • Keynote: “Operational Discipline Does Not Mean Following Procedures” Steve Cutchen, U.S. Chemical Safety Board
  • Industry Team Presentations from: Solvay, Ashland, Shell Chemical, and Ascend Performance Materials

Breakout Session Descriptions:

Lessons Learned Training Exercise

  • Work through WTL related events to identify key causal factors and what tool may have prevented a similar event.
  • Attendees will be able to take the exercises back to their site in addition to discussing what Walk the Line tools could have prevented each event.

Walk the Line Challenge Exercise

  • Discuss ways to address real-life Walk the Line scenarios and challenges focused on pre-identified themes.
  • Challenge questions addressed and summary notes packet from all rooms will be sent to attendees following the meeting.

Benchmarking Exercise

  • Attendees will utilize polling technology to benchmark responses with other attendees followed by a discussion on specific site practices.
  • These takeaways include benchmarking results and discussion insights from all the major themes.

Walk the Line Open Discussion

  • Discuss with your peers what you’ve learned throughout the workshop and prepare to work on your action plan with your company teams. Time will be available for open facilitated discussion.
  • Take back to your team an actionable plan and sharable lessons.

Come join the 250 other attendees from Operating companies from across the country at this year’s workshop.  Please email Alyse Keller, akeller@afpm.org, with any questions or for more information.
