Virtual Plant Simulation is a powerful concept over the lifecycle of a plant. Engineering companies are in a unique position to play an enabling role with this technology. Engineering companies build dynamic process models over the course of a project for a variety of applications. These models are evolutionary and incorporate information available at different stages. This results in a fully functional model at the construction stage. This model can be adapted as a virtual plant for a variety of purposes like start-up support, evaluating safety and operating procedures, training plant personnel and developing advanced applications. This paper describes Bechtel’s efforts in developing and applying Virtual Plant Technology.
