Description:

This paper examines four configurations for the conversion of petroleum coke into value added products. The potential overall benefits for these configurations include: · The capability to handle cheaper, heavier, higher sulfur crudes without the need to extensively upgrade existing refinery units. This insulates the refiner somewhat from future crude oil price increases by having the ability to process lower quality crudes. · FT liquids production enables refiners to upgrade their overall crude derived products through blending. · Refinery self sufficiency with regard to electricity, hydrogen and steam, and lower operating costs. · Can eliminate or reduce the problems with the disposal of high sulfur, high metals coke or other refinery low-value streams such as asphaltene, pitch or visbreaker tar.
