AM-00-29 DELIVERING SYNTHETIC PERFORMANCE WITH VHVI SPECIALTY BASE FLUIDS

Historically, top-tier performance has been achieved through the use of synthetic type fluids such as polyalphaolefins and/or esters. Advanced processing techniques, however, are now commercial from which the resultant base oils are synthesized through significant molecular change. In many instances, automotive and industrial products formulated with these high quality API Group III Specialty Base Fluids achieve the same top tier performance as that from traditional synthetic-type fluids. This paper is a continuation of our work to better understand and demonstrate the synthetic features of our VHVI Specialty Base Fluids. In the final analysis, the performance of a finished fluid is the key requirement of the customer. Product performance in field applications can vary dramatically, even among PAO-based formulations. Several examples show that top-tier synthetic performance can be delivered through the synergistic balance of VHVI Specialty Base Fluids and additive chemistry.
