Phillips MaxCat™ Coke Reduction Technology (MaxCat CRT) was developed to meet the need of improved performance of the semi-regenerative reformer units within Phillips Petroleum’s own refineries. The process through which it evolved is somewhat unique when compared to the traditional path for new technologies. The following paper will explain the evolution of the technology from its inception to the success it has become. It includes a description of the origin of the technology and its development by Phillips researchers, a brief overview of the gasoline reforming process and benefits seen with the application of MaxCat CRT in semi-regenerative reformers and, lastly, plans for future developments.
