Description:

The growing availability of natural gas in remote locations has led to advances in technologies designed to capitalize on this low cost resource. Developing markets for gas-based fuels include synthetic fuels and chemicals produced directly from natural gas, fuels and chemicals from natural gas via methanol, and electric power from methanol. This paper will discuss some of the drivers for gas resource development, as well as a number of the key technologies that are in the process of being developed and commercialized for gas conversion to higher value products. Production cost economics for selected technologies are profiled relative to product prices in target markets, and the potential for commercialization is assessed.
