AM-01-58 NAPHTHAMAX TM BREAKTHROUGH FCC CATALYST TECHNOLOGY FOR SHORT CONTACT TIME APPLICATIONS

Engelhard has developed and commercialized NaphthaMax TM , a new FCC catalyst from the Fuels Active Catalyst Technology (FACT) Platform designed for Short Contact Time (SCT)FCC applications. NaphthaMax, the result of a three year focused R&D effort, combines a proprietary new matrix technology called DMS (for Distributed Matrix Structures) with our PyroChem-Plus zeolite to achieve optimized porosity along with the high activity needed for SCT systems. The technology has been proven over the past year in several commercial FCC units, resulting in breakthrough performance compared with prior catalyst technologies. These operations have observed significant improvements in conversion and total liquid yields as well as very deep bottoms conversions, without the typically associated coke and gas penalties. The technology is flexible and can be tailored to produce maximum gasoline yield, high light olefins yields, or a combination of both. This paper presents a description of the technology along with some details of the outstanding results achieved in both laboratory testing and commercial performance.
