Description:

CrystaSulf is a nonaqueous sulfur recovery process that can remove both H2S and light ends from the hydrogen recycle stream of hydrotreaters. Refineries that would otherwise have to purge hydrogen to fuel to control hydrogen partial pressures can use CrystaSulf and see a large savings in reduced hydrogen losses and an increase in hydrogen partial pressures. The H2S that is removed in the process is converted directly to elemental sulfur with no need for a conventional Claus sulfur recovery unit (SRU). The benefits can be tremendous, especially for refineries that don’t currently have a SRU, that have limited SRU capacity, that want to avoid changes to an existing SRU, or that have large seasonal turndown ratios.
