Description:

The presence of light components in a multicomponent flash enhances the separation of intermediates species from heavy ones. This has been named "carrier-effect". We present an analytical expression quantifying this effect, which can be used to determine if at a given pressure and temperature, a component is a stripping agent. It is shown that if one plots the stripping effect of different components as a function of their K value, there exists a common transition point for all concentrations of stripping agents. Based on the understanding of the carrier effect, two technologies have been developed to enhance the yield of distillates in crude fractionation
