Description:

In this paper, we will further examine the bottoms conversion mechanisms for resid cracking and demonstrate how the understanding of the mechanisms can be applied to optimize the resid cracking process and to design optimum catalysts for resid applications. Through detailed molecular analyses, we will illustrate that there are different types of reactions involved in bottoms conversion with each requiring a different type of catalytic function, and dependent on a unit’s need for coke selectivity.
