Description:

In 2003 Baker Petrolite developed EXCALIBUR Metals Removal Technology to remove many of these contaminants. The main focus of the program was centered on removing calcium10 which was typically present in the form of a water insoluble naphthenate. West African crudes such as Doba and North Sea crudes such as Harding and Heidrun are good examples of crude oils with hard to extract forms of calcium. Doba in particular was a target as the level of calcium present was easily an order of magnitude greater than most other crude oils. The program involves a combination of specialized demulsifiers, scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors and metals removal agents and their proper application to maximize contaminant removal while minimizing impact on crude processing. Since initial introduction, the program has been used to successfully treat a variety of high metals content crude blends in multiple locations.
