This paper discusses how a viable coal-to-liquids (CTL) industry in the U.S. might supply high quality middle distillates, in particular diesel fuel, jet kerosene, and middle distillate blending stock. It also addresses CTL economics, the potential role of the U.S. government, and how the large-scale development of this industry might impact U.S. refineries.
