Description:

Gasoline blending continues to present many challenges to refiners. Ever tighter environmental and performance specifications -- coupled with the mandated use of bio-fuels and competing interests for gasoline range hydrocarbons -- has greatly complicated gasoline production planning. In addition, the requirements for more boutique fuels, the introduction of new blend stocks, and heightened concerns about quality integrity has made the movement, staging, and segregation of gasoline stocks extremely difficult. Only the most sophisticated of gasoline blend scheduling tools can deal with such problems. In H/Gal-XE, Haverly Systems provides such a modeling system. Haverly's many years of developing operations scheduling software for the refining industry have culminated in this new offering. H/Gal-XE successfully combines blending optimization and automatic scheduling. Many of the constraints common to gasoline blending operations (such as: octane blending, seasonal specifications, laboratory operating hours, ethanol blending, economic consequences, quality giveaway, blend recipes restrictions, and equipment limitations) have been generalized to make their introduction effortless. This paper will introduce this powerful new modeling system, discuss its many features, and share examples of its use.
