Description:

Topsøe has in recent years emerged as one of the leading suppliers of high activity catalysts for high severity demanding hydroprocessing services. In late 2003, Topsøe introduced the first catalyst based on a new production technique that we called BRIM™ Technology. Topsøe’s BRIM™ catalysts were quickly accepted by the industry and are today widely considered to be the leading technology. Now five years after the introduction of BRIM™, we are pleased to announce the introduction of the first BRIM™ catalysts made with an improved production technology. One of the focal points in our research at Topsøe into improved BRIM™ hydroprocessing catalysts is to increase the dispersion of the active species on the carrier surface. By improving dispersion, the number of sites for a given metals loading is increased, resulting in higher catalyst activity. Increasing the activity even further is achieved by putting more metals into the catalyst. The full effect of adding more metals is not achieved, unless the metals can be well dispersed, i.e. improving dispersion results in a number of benefits. We will clearly show how these new catalysts can improve the performance in hydrotreaters compared to our previous generation of BRIM™ catalysts. In addition we will discuss how the extra activity can improve the economics of hydrotreating for the refiner.
