In order to improve the processability of Mexican heavy crudes, IMP (Instituto Mexicano del Petroleo) has been developing a process for upgrading these crudes, improving their properties and their distillates yields. Although this process was developed for heavy crude oils with high contaminants contents, it can also be applied to other heavy crude oils.
