Description:

The catalytic cracker will always be one of the most profitable units in the refinery since the feed is heavy fuel oil and the products are transportation fuels and LPG or petrochemical feeds. Crackers normally process at least 25% of the crude oil, a figure that can reach 50% if atmospheric residue is fed to the unit. Many FCC units were built over 40 years ago and have gone through numerous revamps to increase capacity or improve overall performance. Some of the ways that FCC operations can and have been improved are described below, organized by these categories: Catalysts and Additives, Equipment Modifications, Operational Changes and Unit Testing.
