Description:

Global primary energy demand is forecast to increase by almost 40% by the year 2030. To address this increasing global demand, a strategy of conservation as well as development of new sources of energy is critical. Alternate fuels will play an increasingly important role in the future primary energy mix. Sustainably produced renewable energy demand will grow to not only comply with government mandates in the transport and power sectors but also as a means to mitigate the impacts of GHG emissions. These two sectors contribute to almost 70% of the global GHG emissions and hence the imperative to develop sustainable solutions. The challenge for society today is to address the issues of increasing fuel demand, and concern for GHG emissions impact of fuels use in a manner that is both sustainable and compatible with existing refining , distribution, power and automotive infrastructure. UOP has developed a strategy to address this goal as described in this paper.
