Description:

Frontier El Dorado Refining Company (FEDRC) operates a 19 MBPD delayed coker unit (DCU) at their El Dorado, Kansas refinery. To augment a major crude unit and vacuum tower expansion project, the DCU was modified to handle a much heavier feed slate. Overall feed rate was not changed, however the coke yield was predicted to increase by nearly 33%. Skelly Oil Company began construction of the DCU at El Dorado in 1958 with upgrades in the late 1970s and again in the early 1990s. By 2003, the two drum unit was consistently running 12 hour cycles, and was limited by drum capacity.
