AM-13-71 Exploit Hydrotreating and Low Cost Hydrogen for Increased Profits

This paper will discuss the kinetics of hydrogenation and present information from two commercial hydrotreating operations that utilized low cost hydrogen to drive improved economics. In one case additional volume swell justified selection of a catalyst system which delivered the highest hydrogenation performance. In a second case a refinery was able to upgrade a stream with very high sulfur, nitrogen and aromatics to ULSD specifications by optimizing hydrogenation kinetics of the catalyst system. In both cases, upgraded hydrotreater operations improved profitability at the refinery.
