Description:

Flint Hills Resources (FHR) has a well-defined set of operations best practices largely focused on optimizing communications within the operations team and those that support them. At a high level, these relate to defining and understanding limits and plans, capturing deviations from limits with context, capturing operator observations and performing effective shift handovers. At FHR, these work practices have been enabled by a tool set known as CAPSALL (console action plan, secondary alarming, logbook, and limit repository). Due to obsolescence issues, FHR had to replace some of the existing tools and desired a standard product solution to assure support and future functionality. We have successfully deployed the CAPSALL solution in our refineries in Pine Bend, Minnesota, and Corpus Christi, Texas and are proceeding with our enterprise-wide rollout across all 14 or more FHR facilities. The solution enables FHR’s optimal work practices that continue to provide functionality spanning operations, reliability, optimization and management. This presentation will focus on the strategy used for deployment at our refineries, the benefits we are experiencing, the challenges of change management, and what we’ve learned while deploying a standard solution.
