In the US, some refineries are processing heavy opportunity crudes and others are trying to benefit from the increased availability of light oil. Irrespective of the type of crude being processed, technologies that enable accurate estimation and prediction of key petroleum properties are essential for accurate optimization and debottlenecking of refinery operations. In this paper, we will describe the petroleum properties estimation and prediction capabilities in Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining. These properties can be propagated in the flowsheet all the way through to the products. With the recent introduction of new reactor models, Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining now provides all the models to optimize refinery operations. Refineries can now achieve better optimization and greater profits by benefiting from the advancement in refinery process modeling technologies.
