Description:

Today catalytic additives containing ZSM-5 zeolite are a routine part of the daily FCC catalyst diet in many refineries. In Asia and the Middle East many (new) FCC units are targeting maximum propylene production – which heavily depends on ZSM-5 additive usage. In North America, the shale oil / shale gas revolution has changed the refinery landscape, also leading to increased ZSM-5 usage: steam crackers in the US made a substantial change in feedstock to process lighter feeds, especially natural gas liquids. As an effect, propylene production as a byproduct decreased and the FCC is the most attractive unit in place immediately able to make up for the shortfall.
