This paper covers some of the more significant findings for fixed equipment mechanical integrity (FEMI) from the 53 AFPM/API process safety site assessments conducted to date (basic protocols), including some of the best practices we have come across and some of the most significant opportunities for improvement. Some interesting performance data relative to the size of the operating site and size of the company is shown. Additionally, some insight is provided as to why FEMI scores/performance in the industry are lagging the other six process safety (PS) elements being assessed.
