Description:
Hydrotreating processes were installed in refineries more than 20 years ago mainly to reduce the sulfur content of fuel oils. However the older type versions of these processes lacked in flexibility for conversion and refining and do not fit any more in modem refineries where more and more heavy feedstocks have to be processed. These feedstocks are high in asphaltenes and metals that very strongly limit catalyst performances. ASVAHL (a GIE, ELF, IFP, TOTAL) has developed several new heavy feedstock upgrading technologies among which the HYVAHL processes are specially designed for handling the asphaltenes and metals problems.
