Description:

With the passage and signature of the Clean Air Act renewal, reformulated gasoline or other alternate transportation fuels will be required by 1995. These fuels will be mandated in nine ozone nonattainment areas and in approximately forty carbon monoxide nonattainment areas. The requirements include reduced vapor pressure, aromatics and volatile organic compound emissions and increased oxygen content. To meet these new specifications, refiners will be forced to adjust the processing routes used to produce gasoline. This paper explores several possible alternatives involving both process changes and catalytic options.
