Description:

The impact of the new clean air legislation on gasoline production will be complex and far-ranging. It will affect not only the properties of the gasoline pool, but also those of the other products from the refinery. Although the issue of gasoline reformulation is not yet completely defined, this paper focuses on one aspect that has been specifically legislated: benzene reduction. It examines the various options available for benzene reduction and compares the impact of these options on the refinery material balance and on the net margin of a refinery producing gasoline at a fixed oxygen level, Reid vapor pressure (RVP), and octane.
