Description:

This paper will focus on how the quantity and quality of catalytic surface area circulated to the FCC reactor riser by the equilibrium catalyst profoundly influences the operation of the FCC unit. Based on these principles, an important new FCC catalyst performance parameter will be introduced which can be used by the refiner to gauge the health of the equilibrium FCC catalyst inventory. The meaning and ramifications of this catalyst parameter on FCC unit performance will be discussed using commercial examples. In addition, we will discuss how both catalytic and mechanical technologies can be appropriately applied by refiners to help expand the ability of the FCC unit to handle residual feeds.
