Description:

In response to environmental pressures during the 1980’s, there were significant changes in the composition of U.S. gasoline. Changes in consumption patterns also resulted in modifications ofgasohne composition. These changes have, in turn, caused other environmental problems to arise. Recent environmental legislation will again change (reformue) the composition of U.S. gasoline. In addition, Western eu rope has begun an environmentally-motivated reformution of gasoline. Oxygenates are important components of the gasoline products of the future. This paper will present details of the above developments and provide an indepth look at the economics of producing MTBE from the most basic of raw materials -field butanes and natural gas.
