Waste management is a major issue we all find ourselves dealing with in today's society. The federal and state programs in the United States have essentially prioritized waste management activities into the following hierarchy: reduction at the source, recycling, incineration, stabilization and landfilling, respectively. Where it is not possible to reduce at the source, there are some very appropriate waste recycling activities which can be utilized for many industrial waste streams. The focus is to beneficially use a waste material, with the result being a final disposal solution; hence, reduction in long-term liability for industrial waste generators.
