Description:

There is a growing effort to reduce sulfur levels in transportation fuels. In gasoline, at higher levels, sulfur adversely affects the performance and life of precious metal catalysts in auto catalytic convertors used to reduce hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions. Levels of 50 - 150 ppms are being discussed generally, and California's CARB has passed (1) CARB II, which specifies a flat limit for producers of 40 ppm sulfur by 1996 in their pool gasoline. Gasoline pool sulfur had been running about 349 wppm S in the US (2)
