One of the main measures to reduce global air pollution is to clean up transportation fuel. A new regulation for sulfur content in diesel fuel for transportation to below O.O5wt% was proposed by the Japanese Central Council for Environmental Pollution Control in 1989, in order to reduce the particulates and NOx in the exhaust gas from diesel vehicles, the use of which continues to increase in Japan.
