Description:

Several years ago Phillips initiated studies to dehydrogenate light paraffins with a minimum of structural isomerization. This work led to the development of a non-acidic, zinc aluminate support which promoted very little isomerization but, when impregnated with various metals, demonstrated excellent dehydrogenation properties with very high selectivities at near equilibrium conversions. The catalyst was also extremely stable in the presence of steam, and thus was named STAR -- an acronym for STeam Active Reforming.
