Description:

Restrictions on emissions from diesel engines are being tightened both in the U.S. and in Europe. Emphasis is growing on developing cleaner fuels rather than cleaning polluting off-gases to meet these new emission standards. A growing recognition of the influence of the aromatics in diesel fuels on the emissions is leading to limitations on aromatics in several areas. To meet the new diesel fuel specifications, Topsoe has developed a low-pressure process for combined deep desulfurization and dearomatization. This paper describes the new process and its applications for new units as well as for upgrading existing diesel hydrotreater units.
