Seventeen years before the Diamond Shamrock Octanizer went on stream, the first IFP catalytic reformer with continuous catalyst regeneration started up in Italy. The differences between the old and the new units are as great as the distance separating them. The earlier reformer was assembled largely with old equipment, much of which came from an ancient U.S. reformer.
