Description:

New federal sulfur regulations for distillate fuels require many refiners to upgrade their hydrotreater facilities. If the EPA follows the California lead to reduce aromatics, additional distillate hydrotreater modifications may be required to meet future aromatics specifications. A cost effective process for aromatics reduction is compared with other processing alternatives for reducing both sulfur and aromatics in new and modified facilities. This process will be of special interest to refiners now planning desulfurization projects as these facilities can be cost effectively modified for aromatics reduction in the future.
