Description:

As the dominant conversion process in US. refineries, Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) will play an important part in the manufacture of the clean burning fuels required by the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. Current industry focus is on oxygenates, primarily MTBE, to meet the minimum oxygen requirement for gasoline sold in CO non-attainment areas. This ether is manufactured from isobutylene and the primary source of isobutylene in existing refineries is the FCC unit.
