Haldor Topsrae A/S has developed a new fixed bed alkylation process which is a substitute for both the current HF and the sulfuric acid processes. The process, which is being commercialized in a collaboration with the M. W. Kellogg Company, is based on an acid catalyst supported on a solid medium in a unique manner. The reactor system can be operated continuously without interruption for catalyst regeneration. The technology has been successfully tested in an 0.5 BPD pilot plant for more than two years, including a continuous run for six months. Data from the pilot operation and the commercial evaluations will be presented.
