Description:

The processing of resid feeds in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) units continues to grow. Of the approximately 150 operating UOP-designed FCC units, about 25 process, at least periodically, feedstocks having a Conradson carbon content of 2 wt-% or higher. Refiners requested that resid feed be used in 21% of the FCC performance estimates prepared by UOP for revamp studies in 1993. During the same period, refiners requested the use of resid feed for 56% of the new unit performance estimates. In 1992-93, UOP licensed nine new FCC units; of these, five are designed to process resid feeds containing up to 6% Conradson carbon content.
