Description:

In 1993/94, four (4) MORPHYLANEe extractive distillation plants went into operation, each with different feedstocks and product qualities. These represent Krupp Koppers' MORPHYLANEe facilities Numbers 14, 15, 16, & 17 to be commissioned. Product capacities for these facilities were very different and resulted in several new experiences, operating techniques and design innovations. The smallest plant had an aromatics capacity of 27,600 t/a and the largest of 506,100 t/a. The MORPHYLANEe plants for VIZAG Steel Ltd., Visakhapatnam, India, and for China Steel Chemical Corporation, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, use hydro-refined crude coke oven benzole as a feedstock, the plant for Neste Oy Chemical (now Borealis) in Porvoo, Finland, extracts aromatics from a mixture of reformate and- fully hydrogenated pyrolysis gasoline, and a plant for Chevron Chemical Company at its refinery in Pascagoula, Mississippi, USA uses a feedstock consisting of reformate from their proprietary AROMAX@ reforming process and a reformate cut from several RHENIFORMERSe. As a result of the widely different feedstock compositions and throughput volumes, the plant designs vary from one another and display different operating characteristics.
