Description:

This paper describes a new, proprietary technique for simulating and investigating the fouling phenomenon in the FCC main fractionator bottoms pumparound circuit. The technique effectively models the chemical and physical reactions that lead to fouling in the bottoms pumparound circuit. Key operational and compositional factors, such as bottoms temperature, residence time, stream physical properties and the use of process antifoulant additives are discussed. The technique provides quantitative measures of the impact of these factors on the rate and nature of fouling.
