Description:

In the Fall of 1993, Solomon Associates was approached by several specialty chemical companies about the use of our methodology to benchmark both water treatment and process chemicals in the refining industry. All of these suppliers had experienced a series of bids which significantly effected profitability, and more importantly, diminished the level of trust between themselves and what they considered to be a valuable long-term customer base. Most had seen the result of this type of activity on their upstream businesses in the oilfield, and were looking for a way to develop a better method of communicating with their customers, which involved a consideration of performance as well as price. The first to accept this challenge was Nalco Chemical Company of Naperville, Illinois.
